I'd seen Sometimes Jones throughout my
life. But once, when I was a young, hungry actor living in my VW
bus for almost a year on the streets of North Beach in San Francisco,
I really got
to know him. He's also world famous: in 1980 one of his
film shorts, "Solly's
Diner", got an Academy Award Nomination, even.
Sometimes Jones is a tall, thin, long-haired,
storybook, cartoon, live-action, film, digital-video, scam-artist,
thief/pickpocket/survivor trapped in a neighborhood & world full
of people & karma that he's almost got completely figured out. Almost.
But just not quite.
His age varies anywhere from 15 to 35. Sometimes
he's smart, sometimes he's clueless, sometimes he's a thief, sometimes
he's a hero. But, no matter who, what, where, or when: he's always
tenacious, extremely serious and, just like the alley cat, he'll
survive long after the search party has given up and the search
planes have headed for home.
